HONOLULU, HI (May 3, 2022) – The Central Pacific Bank (CPB) Foundation is donating $25,000 to the Cancer Center at The Queen’s Medical Center in honor of former CPB Chairman and CEO Joichi Saito, who passed on March 18, 2022 at the age of 86 after a battle with cancer.

“The doctors and medical staff at The Queen’s Cancer Center and the ICU at The Queen’s Medical Center were very dedicated and respectful as they worked with us to find the right balance of treatment and comfort for my husband, while also being supportive of my family emotionally. We have no regrets as we reflect on my husband’s battle with cancer and we will cherish our time we had with him,” said Yoko Saito, Mr. Saito’s wife of 60 years. “We are very grateful to CPB and the CPB foundation for their generosity. We hope and pray all patients and their families will have the precious time with the loved ones as we did.”

“I never take for granted the contributions of the many leaders before me who built the foundation for the bank to succeed,” said CPB Executive Chairman Paul Yonamine. “Mr. Saito will always be part of the fabric of Central Pacific Bank. We have lost a great man, but his imprint will remain with all CPB employees and our local community for generations to come and we are happy to make this donation in his honor.”

“We are extremely appreciative of this generous donation towards our Cancer Center in memory of Mr. Joichi Saito,” said President and CEO Jill Hoggard Green, PhD, RN, The Queen’s Health System. “The donation will help to further enhance the care we provide to our cancer patients and continue to support our caregivers with the tools they need to be able to provide the highest quality care to our patients. We have a nationally-recognized team of caregivers who are deeply committed to delivering the most compassionate cancer care available.”

Mr. Saito served as Chairman and CEO from 1996-2002 leading CPB to become nationally recognized as one of the top performing banks in the country. Those who knew him during his tenure at CPB fondly remember him as the epitome of grace and class.
