There’s No Diner Finer than Big City Diner

content image

A local boy from Kailua who attended Iolani School, Lane Muraoka came up with his idea of Big City Diner and eventually developed this concept into a reality in 1998. From cleaning and serving to bartending and handing out flyers, Lane does it all. Lane is proud that Big City Diner now has six locations throughout Oahu: Ward, Kaimuki, Waipio, Kailua, Pearlridge East and Windward Mall! It’s all about the relationships that they’ve created – relationships between the guests, employees, and staff. Big City Diner has developed long-lasting friendships and bonds. They’ve seen generations come into their restaurants, come in as little kids, come back as high schoolers, after practices, in new relationships, with kids, after college. They’ve had one couple come in from the hospital with their baby, eat a meal and show staff their newborn. Big City Diner has become a gathering place. Guests bring employees Christmas, birthday presents and lei. It's a home away from home.
