HONOLULU, HI (May 9, 2023) – The CPB Foundation is proud to support the renovation of the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warriors football team locker room, complete with new flooring, painting, and electrical system, the first substantial renovation of the facility since 2013.

“The UH football team is an integral part of our community and holds a special place in the hearts and memories of so many people in our state,” said David Morimoto, CPB Foundation vice president and treasurer. “We are happy to help the team, donate money and work to secure in-kind services from vendors to coordinate the improvements to the locker room in time for next season.”

“This means something to us. Never ever will we take anything like this for granted,” said Coach Timmy Chang, University of Hawai‘i football coach. “The way the community has supported us in the last year and a half is unbelievable.”

“We’re super grateful for what we’ve been provided with and for what makes this place feel like home, because a lot of us come from different places around the country and we all come together with one goal and that is to win. In order to win you have to feel at home and it is important to establish that in the locker room,” said Jonah Kahahawai-Welch, UH Rainbow Warrior defensive lineman, who was one of many players that helped with the demolition work.

The CPB Foundation is donating $25,000 to pay for the expenses needed for the improvements. It has also secured the following companies to work on the project which are donating time, labor and materials, which in total is valued at more than $100,000:

  • SKY Painting
  • Island Flooring

The demolition work began on Tuesday, May 9, 2023. The improvements are anticipated to be finished in just a matter of weeks and in time for summer workouts beginning in June.

The CPB Foundation is known for supporting community organizations and initiatives and answered the call when asked to help the football team with the much-needed improvements to its facility.
